Network Comparison
Verizon vs. AT&T

We utilize both Verizon and AT&T Networks.  So this is an impartial test without bias towards either one.

These series of  tests will be run at several different locations.  The tests consist of network availability in claimed service areas, and upload and download speed test.

The tools used for testing are an iPhone, iPad with AT&T 3G and a Verizon MiFi 2200 3G device.
The speed test results are from utilizing tools at speedtest.net

Test #1

Location:  Ygnacio Valley & Alberta Way
                 Concord, CA

Conclusion:

We admit not much difference here.  The download speed is minimal difference.  Verizon is the winner with a .55 Mb/s upload speed.

What that means to you:
If you are browsing you would see no difference at all.

But if you are sending a text message from AT&T, it would be lagging behind the Verizon text message by what would be equivalent to a blink of an eye!

What that means to us:

We have no problem receiving notifications from our monitoring service, we can access our help desk, and we can run a remote session to address issues on both Networks!

Test #1

Results:  AT&T Wireless

Test #3

Location:  Alhambra St., Crockett, CA

Conclusion:

Again, we have a split winner.  Verizon again is the winner with quicker upload speed, and AT&T is the obvious winner with the download speed.  We found it interesting with several tests Verizon’s Download and Upload were almost matched in speed.

What that means to you:
If you are browsing you would see a difference with AT&T’s faster download speed.

If you are sending a text message from AT&T, it would be lagging behind the Verizon text message by what would be equivalent to a couple of blinks of an eye!

What that means to us:

We have no problem receiving notifications from our monitoring service, we can access our help desk, and we can run a remote session to address issues!  However on the Verizon Network we had to turn the resolution down to Black and White in order to run a remote session.

Test #3

Results:  Verizon Wireless

Test #3

Results:  AT&T Wireless

Test #2

Location:  Shellmound St. Emeryville, CA,

Conclusion:

We have a split winner.  Verizon again is the winner with quicker upload speed, however AT&T is the obvious winner with the download speed.

What that means to you:
If you are browsing you would see a difference with AT&T’s faster download speed.

Test #4

Location:  Marina Village Parkway, Alameda, CA

Conclusion:

We continue to see Verizon with higher consistent upload speeds and AT&T clearly dominates the download speed by 1 Mb!!  Extremely disappointed in the Verizon lack of  performance.

However on the Verizon Network we had to turn the resolution down to Black and White again in order to run a remote session.
